First Presbyterian to Host Work-Camp Groups

As part of our our goal to "embrace our downtown location and its opportunities for mission and ministry," the Session has adopted a plan to host work camp groups in the summer.  In 2009 a Work Camp Implementation Task Force was created, showers were installed, and rooms identified and prepared for sleeping, cooking, and lounging. We hosted our first two work camps in the summer of 2010.  In 2011 we hosted one work camp.  For the summer of 2012, in partnership with the West Virginia Mission Advocacy and Work Camp group we hosted three work camps.  July 7 to 13, 2013 we hosted another work camp group. Three work camp groups joined us the summer of 2014.  We hosted two work camp groups the summer of 2015 from Hopewell, New Jersey and Franklin, Tennessee. Stout Central Presbyterian Church from Loysville, PA, will come to our church on July 9 to 16, 2016.  This is the second time they have attended our work camp.

The work camps build ramps, repair porches and decks, paint, and other like jobs for home owners who are senior citizens, disabled, or cannot afford to have the work done themselves.

Task Force Members: Jeff Mitchell, Denver and Kandy Atkinson, Michael Ann Gainer, Janet and Jeep Wilson, Susan Tustin, Wayne Northey, Bryon and Ginger Delawder, and Jeff Strange.

If you have work that needs to be done, or would like to bring a work group to our area, contact Jeff Mitchell at 304-622-3487.
